I didn’t have a ton of hope with it to tell you the truth. I’m not a huge follower of the brewery, but the semi-truck flap style sillhouette of “St. Bridget” on the bottle grabbed my eye enough to get me to pull it from the shelf and bring it along. When it produces such a happy result, what’s a little objectification between friends.

To Widmer’s credit, this beer tastes exactly as described. A picture perfect Belgian Ale. It even made the immediate area smeel like Belgian beer. Is it good? If you like Belgians, then yeah.

Widmer and I have have a had a rocky past, but I will give them credit for this. It’s probably too specific a taste to be able to get *&@!-faced on, but in terms of drinkability and general yumminess, it is probably the best of the Widmer beers out right now.

I’m not sure who Ruby is, but she’s not in this beer. None the less, this is a good easy drinking beer, that helps me sit through a Madden pregame. And boy does one need help when it comes to that.

Update: Since for the first time in our 130-odd reviews that we had the actual brewer comment on one of our posts, I feel obliged to elaborate just a bit.

Ok, just a little. Although it didn’t have the strong Ruby taste of a McMenamins, the beer itself was very good, and I would certainly buy and drink again. And that folks, is the true measure of any great beer.

Neither overly sweet or raspberry-ey (a phrase coined during pre-SuperBowl conversation today), this stuff isn’t the dog the label imagery may convey.

It’s actually pretty good.
